SFC NETS 2 SUSPECTS IN ILLEGAL LOGGING OPERATION AT KANOWIT

8 April 2019 : Acting on information received, a joint enforcement team comprising officers from the Sibu Regional Office of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and PGA Sibu has successfully crippled an illegal logging operation at a location near Ulu Sungai Uka, Kanowit.

The operation has netted 2 suspects and detained 260 logs of various sizes and species which some were found buried underneath forest debris and soils to avoid detection, as well as machineries including 2 excavators, 2 vehicles, 2 tractors, 2 generator sets, 1 chainsaw and 1 water pump. The suspects were unable to produce any document to prove legal ownership of the logs and the logs did not bear any official markings.

A police report on the operation had been lodged at the Kanowit Police Station and the case has been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation.
